Kanpur: A fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon following a short circuit near the electric panel of the ENT department at Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital, triggering panic among patients and attendants at the adjoining ultrasound and X-ray centre.Security guards and hospital staff promptly evacuated more than 100 patients and attendants, who had arrived for ultrasound and X-ray examinations. Thick smoke engulfed the area, prompting immediate firefighting efforts by the hospital staff.The blaze was brought under control within a short time using fire extinguishers before it could spread further. However, due to the smoke, ultrasound and X-ray services were temporarily suspended.Hospital Chief Superintendent Prof. Saurav Agrawal said the fire was caused by a short circuit in the electric panel. He said public services were disrupted briefly and efforts were underway to restore them at the earliest. He added that the exact cause of the fire was also being examined.
