Ahmedabad: The city crime branch on Sunday arrested a 32-year-old man convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act after he remained absconding for nearly three months by jumping parole.Police said Shoaib Shaikh, a resident of Fatewadi, was granted 10 days’ parole from Sabarmati Central Jail on March 20 and was required to surrender on March 31. However, he failed to return to prison after the parole period ended.Acting on a tip-off about his presence near Astodia Darwaza, the city crime branch laid a trap and apprehended him on Sunday. He was subsequently handed back to the Sabarmati Central Jail authorities.Police said Shaikh has a criminal history and is allegedly involved in cases of angadia robbery, assault and offences under the Arms Act. Multiple criminal cases have also been registered against him in Ahmedabad and Surat.
