Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) claim that it has fully implemented wage hikes for sanitation workers has been challenged by municipal workers’ leader Chandraprakash Singh. He said the proposed strike was not only over minimum wages but also focused on the regularisation of daily-wage workers, equal pay for equal work for outsourced employees and payment of a living wage.PMC had earlier said it was complying with the minimum wages notified by the state labour resources department and implementing mandatory wage revisions twice a year.According to the civic body, the daily wage of unskilled workers increased from Rs 424 in April 2025 to Rs 436 in April 2026, while wages of semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled workers were also revised upward.

PMC further said it paid more than Rs 3.41 crore in arrears to daily-wage and permanent sanitation workers over the past year.

Singh, president of the PMC Joint Employees Coordination Committee and Bihar Local Bodies Employees Sangharsh Morcha, alleged that several labour law violations remained unaddressed. He demanded regularisation of workers, strict enforcement of labour laws and better working conditions.
