Pune: The civic administration on Monday restored water supply to Kothrud, Shivajinagar, and Pashan after completing repairs on leakages in two water supply lines — one from Parvati Water Works to SNDT and another from Warje purification plant to Chandni Chowk.Citizens from the affected areas have demanded uninterrupted supply of water over the next few days at adequate pressure to help fill the storage tanks in their housing societies.A supply line from Parvati Water Works to SNDT water unit developed a fault late on Saturday night. The repairs were completed on Sunday, but the supply was not restored to full capacity until Monday morning. Avinash Kulkarni, a resident of Kothrud, said water supply remained disrupted for the entire Sunday. It was restored on Monday, but the pressure was low in the morning. Citizens in many areas have been facing disruptions in water supply for the last four days. The administration closed the supply on Thursday, and after that, it failed to reach full capacity. Sudden disruption in the supply caused many people to suffer.Officials from PMC’s water supply department said, “We restored water pumping on Monday. Water reached the distribution network by the afternoon. We will be monitoring the supply over the next few days.”Residents of Pashan, Bavdhan, and Shivajinagar said that the administration should increase supply and provide water for more hours as people have already suffered over the last four days due to disruptions. Pashan resident Rupesh Kalapure said that the supply was affected for almost three days, which has been restored from Sunday at low pressure. “As per the regular schedule, many areas receive water only for three hours in a day. We want the administration to provide water for more hours and increase water pressure so that housing societies are able to fill their storage tanks,” Kalapure said.Former corporator from Gokhalenagar Aditya Malve said he had received many calls from residents complaining about low-pressure water supply during the weekend. “I have requested the authorities to restore the supply in all pockets at the earliest and also deploy tankers as per the requirement,” he said. Nikhil Deshpande, a resident of Paud Road, said his housing society received water at low pressure for two days. “We requested the residents to use water judiciously. The administration should have an alternative system of providing water in case of sudden disruptions in supply,” Deshpande said.Meanwhile, the water supply department of PMC detected illegal tapping during inspections of Parvati Water Works to SNDT water supply line. “We found some illegal tapping on the supply line and a leakage at the tapping location. We will take up the repairs to tackle this in the next few days. Our priority is to restore supply to all the affected areas,” a civic official said.
