Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday announced that it launched a citywide drive to bring all flats in multi-storey buildings under the property tax net. The civic body has asked apartment secretaries and management committees to provide detailed information on every flat to ensure accurate tax assessment.Officials said the exercise aims to identify properties that are either outside the tax net or are paying less than their actual tax liability. The move is expected to improve revenue collection and create a comprehensive database of residential properties across the city.The PMC has prepared an action plan for all circles. As part of the exercise, sanitary inspectors will conduct field visits to identify and physically verify apartments and multi-storey buildings. They will record details such as the number of flats, total floors and the road on which the building is located.Ward nodal officers will coordinate with apartment secretaries and management committees. They will ensure that a standard information form issued by the PMC headquarters is filled accurately with details of every flat.The information collected from the field will then be scrutinised by the revenue officers concerned. They will verify the details with existing municipal records before finalising the property tax assessment. Executive officers of the respective circles will submit verification reports to the PMC headquarters, they said.Officials said the campaign is intended to make the property tax system more transparent and error-free. It will also help identify properties that have escaped assessment over the years.PMC expects the exercise to increase its property tax revenue. The additional funds will be used to strengthen civic services and support the development of urban infrastructure in the city.
