Ahmedabad: Water-borne and vector-borne diseases continued to rise in Ahmedabad during the monsoon, with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) reporting 345 cases of diarrhoea-vomiting, 235 cases of typhoid and 65 cases of jaundice between July 1 and July 26.According to epidemic data released by the AMC health department on Tuesday, the city also recorded 24 cases of simple malaria, two cases of falciparum malaria, 38 cases of dengue and one case of chikungunya during the 26-day period.The civic body’s surveillance also flagged concerns over drinking water quality. Between July 1 and 26, the health department collected 47,352 water samples for chlorine testing across the city, of which 30 were found to have nil chlorine content. In addition, 6,741 water samples were tested for bacteriological contamination, with 40 samples declared unfit for consumption.The cumulative disease burden also remained significant this year. From Jan 1 to July 26, Ahmedabad recorded 3,479 cases of diarrhoea-vomiting, 1,169 cases of typhoid and 429 cases of jaundice.During the same period, the city reported 149 cases of malaria, including 16 cases of falciparum malaria, along with 197 dengue cases and three chikungunya cases, according to AMC data.
