Patna: With the Ganga continuing to rise and several areas facing flood threats, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and district administration have intensified preventive, relief and rescue measures across vulnerable parts of the district.According to a PMC communique issued on Friday, drains at vulnerable points along the Ganga have been blocked after the district administration shut all sluice gates, preventing river water from entering the city through the drainage network. Pump sets have been kept ready for emergency water evacuation, while field teams are sending real-time updates to the civic body’s control room.PMC has also restricted movement at vulnerable ghats. Kangan Ghat has been barricaded, while Bhadra Ghat and Mahavir Ghat are completely submerged and public access has been prohibited. Announcements are being made regularly, urging people to stay away from the river.At Minar Ghat community kitchen and the displaced persons’ camp at Bind Toli, sanitation workers have been deployed in three shifts, with fogging and anti-larval measures underway.Meanwhile, the district administration has deployed 72 boats free of cost and an SDRF team with 14 boats for rescue operations. Relief camps are providing food, drinking water, medical care and other essential facilities, while arrangements have also been made for livestock.
