Pune: A man (52), working as a clerk at Pune Municipal Corporation lost Rs 3.53 lakh in a credit card fraud on March 8.The victim lodged an online complaint. After the preliminary investigations, a case was registered with the Hadapsar police on Friday.An officer from the Hadapsar police said on March 8, when the complainant was at Hadapsar, he received a call from an unknown number. The caller told him that he was from a multinational bank and would help in raising his credit card limit with his bank’s new credit card.“The victim became suspicious when the caller asked for the details of his old credit card. The caller, however, assured him that by using the credit limit of his old credit card, he would get the new card with an increased credit limit,” the officer said.He said the victim shared the details of his credit card and downloaded an ‘.APK’ file shared by the caller. Within a few minutes, transactions worth Rs 3.53 lakh were made using his credit card. “The victim realised that he was being duped when he received the alerts from his bank,” he said.The officer said by sending the .APK file, the accused accessed the victim’s cellphone, bank and credit card details. “We have sought the details of the transactions made by using the victim’s credit card,” the officer said.
