Times News NetworkChandigarh: Last rites of property dealer Chamanpreet Singh alias Chinni Kubaheri, who was shot dead outside a gym in Sector 9, Chandigarh, were performed at his ancestral village of Kubaheri, in Mohali on Saturday.The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy conducted in PGI by a board of doctors. The report is awaited. Sources said nine bullet wounds were found on the body. Friends, relatives and locals gathered in large numbers at the victim’s home as the body was brought in. His elder brother Deep Inder Singh performed the last rites. Sobbing inconsolably, Chamanpreet’s mother said they were planning his wedding. “Instead of wearing a groom’s attire, he has been consigned to flames,” she lamented.The family maintained that they had no known enmity or suspicion against anyone.His family members strongly refuted claims linking him to alleged land grabbing and extortion. Demanding proof, Deep Inder Singh said, “Show us one person whose land was grabbed. We built our business with hard-earned money,” he said, adding that the family continues to live in modest conditions.Describing Chinni as a popular and generous individual, he said his brother had earned respect in society. “His only fault was that he was well known. We want to know why he was killed,” he added.Appealing for peace, the family urged people to resolve disputes through dialogue rather than violence. “Don’t destroy another family. Sit together and sort out issues instead of taking someone’s life,” the brother said.Chinni was shot dead on March 18 outside a gym in Sector 9.
