Patna: Jan Suraaj on Friday stepped up preparations for the upcoming MLC elections, with party founder Prashant Kishor holding a meeting with functionaries in Purnia. The party is set to contest all eight MLC seats.On the same day, a delegation led by party state president Manoj Bharti met Bihar’s chief electoral officer (CEO) over alleged discrepancies in electoral rolls. The party claimed it had found 1,668 duplicate entries in the Tirhut graduates’ constituency and sought their rectification before publication of the final voter list.The delegation submitted a memorandum to the CEO, seeking correction of the alleged discrepancies and changes in the process of preparing MLC electoral rolls. Bharti said the party had identified duplicate entries, including instances where the same name appeared twice, and had submitted a list of such names to the Election Commission.He said officials informed the delegation that corrections in the electoral rolls would continue until the election was announced and that the final list would be used for polling. Jan Suraaj also sought a process similar to that followed for Lok Sabha and assembly electoral rolls, with separate columns for graduates and teachers during revision to facilitate preparation of separate voter lists.Bharti said officials cited technical and legal issues, stating that changes to the existing procedure were beyond their jurisdiction. The party requested that its demand be forwarded to the Election Commission.National spokesperson Kumar Saurabh said the party had submitted evidence of alleged discrepancies in the voter list. He said officials assured the delegation that efforts would be made to ensure such errors were not retained in the final list after the election notification.
