Dimapur: Mokokchung deputy commissioner and district election officer, Ajit Kumar Verma, has issued an order mandating the physical verification of all firearms and ammunition within the district.The DC said the order aims to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the upcoming bypoll to the 28-Koridang assembly constituency.
Invoking Section 21 of the Arms Act, 1959, the DC instructed all arms licence holders in Mokokchung district to report to their nearest police station. Licensees must present their firearms, ammunition, and license booklets for physical verification during office hours on or before March 20.To ensure strict monitoring, officers-in-charge of police stations have been directed to submit daily reports in the prescribed format through the Mokokchung superintendent of police. These reports will include details such as the serial number, license holder’s name, license number, UIN, type and number of arms, last renewal date, and quantity of ammunition available.
