ERODE: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief coordinator K A Sengottaiyan on Friday claimed that large gatherings during party president Vijay’s election campaigns proved that people had accepted him and were seeking a political change. He claimed that no other leader in the country had received such a welcome. He compared Vijay’s popularity to that of late chief minister M G Ramachandran and exuded confidence that Vijay would become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu after the assembly election. While speaking to reporters during his campaign in Vellalapalayam near Gobichettipalayam, Sengottaiyan referred to Vijay’s tour in Trichy on Thursday. He said Vijay got down from the bus and met the public despite concerns about his security. He accused the DMK govt of failing to provide adequate security for TVK meetings.Sengottaiyan said if Vijay came to power, a separate district would be created with Gobichettipalayam as its headquarters. He said 100 acres of land was ready and govt offices could be built immediately without extra cost. He said making Gobichettipalayam a separate district had been a long-standing demand. “Efforts were made during 2016–17, but the move was postponed,” he said. He said permission for a dyeing unit proposed on the banks of the Bhavani river in Kodiveri area had been withdrawn. He attributed this to the pressure exerted by his party along with leaders of farmers’ associations. He said the party remained committed to protecting the Bhavani river.
