Kolkata: Former BJP national secretary Anupam Hazra, who has on several occasions been critical of the party, on Tuesday posted a veiled “message” apparently aimed at BJP functionaries who have recently gained prominence.Hazra, who has not been seen in any active role during the 2026 polls, shared a video on his Facebook page along with a few lines addressed to a section of BJP netas.“With the blessings of the people, ‘unexpectedly’ winning the vote, some people and some leaders’ current activities after coming to power have made the relevance of these words even more intense,” he wrote.The video, featuring scenes from a seashore, carried a message on arrogance and the consequences of power. It said, “Do you know when people fall? When they start imagining themselves to be big and start to belittle others. They become arrogant if they get anything more than they deserve. They become clueless. We should remember that the lamp flickers the most and burns brighter before it goes out. We should remember that. People become arrogant before their fall.”Bengal BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar said, “It seems that he has made terse comments. But he is a central functionary and state unit cannot comment on his observations. Central party netas can only speak on his comments.”
