Nagpur: A pension cyber fraud is conning the elderly with offers of fake pension cards, revised pensions and extra benefits, before emptying their savings.At least two superannuated men in the city together lost Rs 37 lakh after being trapped by the conmen’s lure.A 70-year-old pensioner from Mahendra Nagar in Pachpaoli police limits, lost Rs5 lakh to an online scam earlier this year after the caller asked him to furnish banking details to clear a pension card issue.Police said the fraudsters call the elderly, talk about pending pension papers or extra facilities, send a link or form on social media, and collect bank account, debit card and CVV details. Once the data is in hand, the money is withdrawn within hours with many pensioners trapped by glib talkers who harp on pension cards, railways retirement benefits, banks and govt offices.Rajesh Waghmare, 60, a retired PWD employee from Ajni, got a call, when he was asked if his pension card had been made and sent a link. Waghmare filled in his bank and debit card details. His account was cleaned of Rs 5.49 lakh without his consent. Ajni police have this week registered an offence for cheating and under IT laws. The caller is still untraced.In another case, Vijay Dhabre, 61, a railway retiree from Rameshwari Ring Road, got a call, where the man identified himself as Dhamendra Yadav and said he was calling from divisional railway manager’s office to revise his pension. Fake papers were sent and Dhabre shared his account, ATM and CVV details. Around Rs 32 lakh was siphoned from his two bank accounts.The case has been registered at the cyber police station for forgery sections and IT Act too.The accused remains unidentified. Police have advised pensioners not to share account details, click or receive pension-related calls or links.
