MUMBAI: A 54-year-old plumber was killed after an iron barricade erected for Metro construction work fell on his moving two-wheeler on LBS Road in Vikhroli on Friday, with the FIR alleging negligence and inadequate safety precautions at the site. The MMRDA is conducting an inquiry into the incident. The deceased, Wasi Haider Ismaili, a resident of Ghatkopar, was travelling towards Mulund for work when the incident occurred near the Rosary building on LBS Road at around 11.30am on September 18, according to the FIR lodged by his son Ali.The FIR states that Ali received a call from his younger brother at around 11.54am, informing him that their father had met with an accident near the Rosary building.Haider was taken to Rajawadi Hospital and admitted to the emergency ward.He was declared dead by a doctor at around 12.35pm.According to the complaint, an iron barricade installed at the Metro work site fell on Haider’s moving two-wheeler, causing serious injuries. His son alleged that the barricade had not been secured properly and that adequate precautions had not been taken by the site supervisor while installing it.The complaint names the project director, manager, site supervisor and the concerned company, alleging negligence in connection with the Metro construction work. Parksite police have registered a case and are investigating. An MMRDA official said an inquiry was being conducted to establish the exact sequence of events. Prima facie, the agency’s assessment is that the bikers may have collided with the barricades, following which they fell. The official said the circumstances would be established after examination of the site and other available evidence. The incident comes just days after two workers were killed when an iron staging structure collapsed at the under-construction Metro 4 Bhakti Park station in Wadala on September 12.MMRDA subsequently initiated action against those responsible. It also follows the February 14 Mulund Metro 4 accident, in which a precast parapet slab fell onto the road, killing one person and injuring three.
