KURUKSHETRA: The Haryana Kisan Mazdoor Morcha has set September 15 as the deadline for the state government to begin procurement of Parmal paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), news agency PTI reported. The decision was taken at a state-level Kisan Mahapanchayat held at the Pehowa grain market on Thursday, where 10 farmer organisations jointly pressed for procurement from September 15.Farmers warned that if procurement does not begin by the deadline and talks with the government fail to yield a concrete solution, the Morcha would meet again to decide its next course of action. The mahapanchayat discussed nine key demands concerning farmers and livestock rearers. A memorandum was submitted to Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena.Farmers demanded reopening of the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal, an increase in the permissible paddy moisture limit from 17 to 20 per cent, and procurement of Parmal paddy with up to 20 per cent moisture at MSP without deductions. They also sought higher sugarcane and milk prices, timely procurement of Narma-cotton at MSP, and more procurement centres.
