Patna: District magistrate Thiyagarajan S M on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the district vigilance and monitoring committee to review matters related to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and its Rules, 1995.District welfare officer, Sanjiv Kumar Ratan, presented the financial report, stating that Rs2.09 crore in compensation was distributed to 288 people in 197 cases from Jan till date. In 2025, Rs7.52 crore was paid to 1,062 people.The administration officials said that 137 people currently receive regular pension payments under the Act. Under Rule 15(1)(d), 12 dependents were provided Group D employment in govt undertakings and posted near their residences. The DM issued instructions to SDOs and SDPOs to visit incident sites to initiate legal proceedings and provide relief measures.The rules stipulate that investigation report and chargesheets should be filed within the statutory timeframes.The report said that a system exists to pay travel and daily allowances to witnesses appearing in court under Rule 11(1). The meeting also addressed the organisation of camps in mahadalit localities to provide land to landless families and facilitate access to state schemes.SDOs were directed to process ration cards and monitor the distribution of foodgrains. The civil surgeon received instructions to hold camps at primary health centres for the issuance of unique disability ID cards.The committee also held a separate meeting with regard to Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 to monitor its implementation.
