Patna: Banks in Patna district have been set a target of disbursing around Rs 1.19 lakh crore in loans during 2026-27, with the district administration asking them to speed up lending and ensure timely credit to eligible beneficiaries.The district’s 34 banks, with 1,011 branches, have also been directed to improve their performance under the annual credit plan (ACP).According to a communique issued on Friday, deputy development commissioner Shubham Kumar reviewed the banks’ functioning during a joint meeting of the district consultative committee and district-level review committee on Thursday, following the directions of district magistrate Kundan Kumar.The first-quarter performance under the ACP was found satisfactory, though private banks were asked to improve their achievement and increase disbursement against prescribed targets.The district’s credit-deposit (CD) ratio was also reviewed. At 50.04%, it remains below Bihar’s average of around 58% and the ideal level of 70%. Banks were asked to increase lending from deposits to support farmers, entrepreneurs, youth and other beneficiaries.The meeting also reviewed loans for agriculture and animal husbandry, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, PM Surya Ghar Yojana, JEEViKA, PMEGP and PMFME. Banks were directed to clear pending animal husbandry loan applications and conduct joint reviews with the department every 15 days.The administration also sought details of wilful defaulters who had borrowed more than Rs 25 lakh and deliberately failed to repay. Recovery proceedings through certificate cases will begin after the lists are received.Banks were further asked to expedite around 14,000 JEEViKA account openings through Bank Sakhis and ensure eligible beneficiaries receive loans under PM Surya Ghar without unnecessary hurdles.
