The accused in police custody

Daltonganj: A 19-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after his photograph with one country-made gun in each of his hands was brought to the notice of local police. The accused Abhay Kumar is a resident of Sarsout village under Harihurganj police station limits of Palamu district. Kumar was booked under sections of the Arms Act following his arrest.“The accused was sent to judicial custody on Friday. No ammunition was recovered from him,” Chhatterpur sub-divisional police officer Prashant Kumar said. Both the guns were recovered based on his disclosure. Abhay’s links with criminal gangs are also being probed.Trouble began for Abhay after he posed for the camera with the two guns and forwarded the photograph to one of his friends. The photograph, which was not posted on social media platforms, found its way to the local police, leading to his arrest, sources said. While Abhay hid one gun under a brick near an irrigation well after wrapping it with a paper, his attempts to mislead the cops on the whereabouts of the other gun failed. “The second gun was hidden in a well at some distance from where he hid his first gun,” the SDPO said. The second gun was recovered by draining the well water out with the help of locals, police said.
