Noida: A 13-year-old boy was bitten by a pet dog inside Lotus Welfare Society in Greater Noida, triggering protests by residents who raised concerns over safety inside the society.Police said the boy, Dhruv Veer, was playing inside the society premises around 9pm on Friday, when the dog allegedly attacked him and bit his leg. The child was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His father, Varun, accused the dog’s owner of negligence and alleged the animal had been allowed to roam freely inside the complex.After the news of the incident spread, a large number of residents gathered inside the complex late at night to protest. Several residents expressed anger and raised concerns about the safety of children.Police from Surajpur station reached the spot after being alerted and dispersed the crowd.Officials said the dog’s owner, Sachchidanand Nautiyal, a resident of Block 6 of the society, was taken to the police station for questioning. A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 291 (negligent conduct with respect to animal), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation).Police said the investigation was launched after a complaint was filed by the boy’s father.Earlier this month, a man was arrested for allegedly threatening two women and instigating his pet dog to attack them. Complainant Manju, a resident of Basai village in Sector 70, told police that she was out buying milk with her neighbour Sumita near Pehalwan Market around 5am on Sunday when a man approached and began harassing them. She alleged that when they protested, the man set his pet dog loose to bite them, and the dog allegedly tore their clothes. The women managed to flee and eventually approached the cops the same day.
