Kanpur: Cloud cover brought some relief to residents from the heat on Friday as the maximum temperature dipped by nearly three degrees Celsius to 31.6°C. However, high humidity continued to make the weather sultry.The minimum temperature remained unchanged at 26°C. The CSA University observatory recorded maximum relative humidity of 92%. Weak southeasterly winds, blowing at around 3.1 kmph, failed to provide much relief to residents.Weather conditions changed in the afternoon, with the city receiving two brief spells of moderate showers. CSA weather expert S N Sunil Pandey said cloud movement over the next five days could lead to localised thunderstorms, strong winds and light rain or drizzle in different parts of the city. He added that humidity was likely to rise whenever the sun emerged.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted heavily overcast skies and a 65% to 77% probability of heavy showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Pandey said another spell of rainfall could affect several parts of the country before the monsoon begins to withdraw.“A new low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on Sept. 10 and is expected to move towards land from Sept. 11, possibly reaching interior parts of the country by Sept. 12,” he said.
