Panchkula: A total of 4,250 auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws have been verified and issued unique identity stickers under a special verification campaign being conducted by Panchkula Police.Under the drive, all auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws operating in the district are being verified and issued departmental identity stickers. DCP (crime and traffic) Amrinder Singh said police had obtained data of all registered autos and e-rickshaws in the district and were carrying out verification in phases.The stickers, displayed prominently on both the front and rear of the vehicles, carry the vehicle registration number, driver’s ID code, assigned route or zone and a departmental unique number.Police said the stickers would serve as proof of official verification and help both police and the public identify vehicles easily. The system would also help curb the operation of unauthorised vehicles.During the drive, traffic police teams also sensitised drivers in different areas about the importance of verification and compliance with safety norms.Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain said, “Safety and transparency in public transport are the backbone of law and order in any modern city. Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws are an important mode of daily travel in Panchkula. Therefore, ensuring the safety of passengers, especially women, children and senior citizens, is our top priority.”He said the unique identity sticker system would help police keep a check on anti-social elements and support crime control, while making traffic management more accountable and organised.Panchkula Police appealed to auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers who have not yet completed verification to cooperate with the initiative. Drivers have been urged to complete the verification process and obtain the departmental identity sticker.
