Sonipat: A 25-year-old delivery executive was killed, and two of his friends were injured after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a road divider on the Murthal road in Sonipat during the early hours of Sunday.Sumit, a resident of Sandal Kalan village, was riding the motorcycle when it reportedly rammed into a divider around 5 am. The impact sent all three riders crashing onto the road. Sumit suffered critical injuries and died at the spot, while his friends Prince and Sahil were shifted to the hospital.Sumit was married and is survived by his wife and a two- or three-year-old child. His death has left the family devastated.Police received information about the accident through ‘Dial 112’ around 6.44 am, following which a team reached the spot and inspected the scene. Prince and Sahil were shifted to Sonipat Civil Hospital. However, Prince was later referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak.According to people familiar with Sumit’s work, he usually worked the night shift and returned home around 8 am after completing his duty. They said he was reportedly heading home after his night shift when the accident occurred. However, another account suggested that the three friends were returning after attending a party. Police are examining the circumstances immediately preceding the crash.Claims were also made that Prince tested positive for alcohol. However, police have not confirmed the claim.Eyewitnesses alleged that Sumit’s body remained at the accident spot for nearly two-and-a-half hours. They claimed that two or three ambulances passed through the area but did not stop, allegedly citing the accident as a police case. The allegations could not be independently verified and have not been officially confirmed.SHO inspector Savit Kumar said Sumit’s body was sent for postmortem and was later handed over to his family.The available findings show that the motorcycle collided with the divider and no other person or vehicle was found responsible, he added.
