Buxar: The National Lok Adalat of 2026 was organised on Saturday at the civil court premises under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Buxar. As many as 1,708 cases were settled through conciliation and mutual agreement, with litigants agreeing on a total settlement amount of Rs 14.76 crore. To ensure speedy disposal of cases, nine benches were constituted. Judicial officers, advocates and para-legal volunteers facilitated amicable settlements between the parties.The Lok Adalat was inaugurated by principal district and sessions judge-cum-DLSA chairperson Kajal Jhamb, family court principal judge Manoj Kumar Pratham, district magistrate Sahila, and superintendent of police Shubham Arya, among other officials.Addressing the gathering, Jhamb said Lok Adalat provides a simple, accessible and speedy mechanism for justice. She said disputes are resolved through mutual consent, ensuring that both parties benefit. She encouraged people seeking quick resolution of disputes to approach Lok Adalat.DLSA secretary Neha Dayal said the National Lok Adalat is organised as a public campaign under the directives of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, with the aim of reducing the burden of pending cases and ensuring affordable and timely justice.She said litigants often move from lower courts to the high court and even the Supreme Court for justice, whereas disputes can be resolved through conciliation in a single day through Lok Adalat.During the Lok Adalat, 544 bank-related cases were settled with an agreed amount of Rs 13,11,60,794, while 618 traffic challan cases were disposed of.In addition, 165 criminal cases, 265 electricity-related cases, 13 matrimonial disputes, and four cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act were resolved through compromise.Settlements were also reached in 98 recovery cases involving different banks, with parties agreeing on Rs 1,12,81,051. Cases related to the district transport officer were also disposed of during the proceedings.
