Bathinda: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday took a swipe at opposition parties, saying they have failed to project a credible leader to lead the state.Addressing a Lok Milni at Charrik village in Moga, Mann said, “The opposition parties are like wedding processions without a groom. Though they are squabbling for power, they do not have a leader acceptable to all. The Shiromani Akali Dal has already split into three to four factions, while Congress leaders do not see eye to eye with one another.”He alleged that opposition leaders were driven by a desire to regain power rather than serve the people. “These power-hungry leaders only want power to plunder the wealth of the state, but the wise people of Punjab will never allow this to happen,” he said.

Launching a sharp attack on previous govts, Mann accused former rulers of amassing enormous wealth by misusing public office.“These leaders built huge palatial houses after accumulating massive wealth through the misuse of their official positions. The walls of these mansions were high and their gates remained closed to common people. They stayed inaccessible to the public and were eventually shown the door by them,” he said.The chief minister also targeted the Shiromani Akali Dal over incidents of sacrilege, alleging that its leaders were “hand in glove with fissiparous forces” involved in conspiracies related to beadbi cases in the past.“Now these leaders have to pay for their actions, which is why they and their supporters are opposing the anti-beadbi law. However, this will not deter me from working for the welfare of the people, and I will continue to make every possible effort in their interest,” he said.Mann said Punjab’s people have repeatedly rejected those who exploited the state for personal gain. “The people of Punjab have shown the door to those who looted them turn by turn,” he said.Highlighting his govt’s achievements, the chief minister said only 82 students from govt schools had qualified the NEET examination in 2022, whereas 881 govt school students cleared the exam this year.“This reflects the remarkable transformation taking place in the state’s education system,” he said.Earlier, Mann inaugurated a 120-bed NABH-accredited multi-speciality hospital in Moga.Pics: CM Bhagwant Mann addressing a Lok Milni at Charrik village in Moga
