Hisar: In a major step forward for veterinary healthcare, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) has launched an advanced dialysis facility for pet dogs at its Veterinary Clinical Complex, offering a lifeline to animals suffering from severe kidney diseases. The initiative, introduced under the guidance of vice-chancellor Dr Vinod Kumar Verma, marks a significant addition to specialised veterinary care in Haryana.Initially, the dialysis service will be available for dogs diagnosed with kidney disorders and found medically suitable for the procedure after clinical evaluation. The facility is being operated under the supervision of Dr Gyan Singh, head of the Veterinary Clinical Complex, along with a team of specialist veterinarians.

Dialysis is an advanced medical procedure that removes toxins and excess fluid from the body when the kidneys fail to function effectively. Veterinary experts said the facility is expected to improve survival chances and enhance the quality of life for critically ill companion animals.The university said the service is currently limited to pet dogs but will be extended to other animal species as infrastructure and technical resources are expanded. The dialysis unit was established under the leadership of Dr Tarun Kumar and Dr Nilesh Sindhu, with support from clinicians, postgraduate students, interns and technical staff.
