Nagpur: Leader of opposition in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Sanjay Mahakalkar, on Monday alleged that chairpersons of various special committees were misusing their positions by repeatedly summoning departmental officers, adversely affecting civic administration and delaying public works. In a letter addressed to municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar, Mahakalkar claimed that committee chairpersons were convening frequent review meetings despite having no executive powers over departments. He alleged that senior officials were forced to spend a substantial amount of time attending these meetings instead of addressing civic issues and implementing development projects. The leader of opposition further alleged that some committee chairpersons were attempting to use their positions to favour contractors and private companies instead of focusing on public interest.Mahakalkar urged the commissioner to regulate the frequency of such meetings and ensure that civic officials devote their time to resolving citizens’ grievances and expediting development works. He also sought directions to prioritise transparent and efficient execution of public projects.NMC administration had not issued any response to the allegations till the time of going to press.
