Jaipur: The nomination process for Jaipur Municipal Corporation elections began on Thursday, but the first day saw a limited response. Candidates filed nominations in only nine of the 150 wards, while the remaining 141 wards saw no nominations. By the end of the day, 11 candidates had filed 13 nomination papers.Nominations were accepted from 10.15am to 3pm at the offices of returning officers set up at 15 locations across Jaipur. Candidates filed papers from Wards 148, 99, 50, 12, 14, 16, 25, 31 and 40.Of the 13 nomination papers filed, four were submitted by candidates contesting on a political party ticket, while eight were filed by independents. Two candidates filed two nomination papers each — one as a party candidate and another as an independent.BJP and Congress are yet to release their official lists of candidates. Despite this, four nomination papers were filed by candidates claiming to contest on an Indian National Congress (INC) ticket. However, the party has not yet allotted them election symbols.Candidates now have only two working days — Aug 29 and 31 — to file their nominations. Aug 28 will be a holiday on account of Raksha Bandhan, while the returning officers’ offices will remain closed on Aug 30 as it is a Sunday.With the nomination window shortened by the holidays, political parties and candidates are expected to step up the process over the next two days.
