Chandigarh: The Democratic Teachers Front (DTF), Punjab has criticised the govt for implementing an online attendance system in govt schools, claiming that it has become a cause of concern for teachers and is also affecting classroom teaching. The organisation said while the system is being projected as a step towards transparency and accountability, teachers are facing technical and administrative difficulties at the ground level. While supporting the use of technology, the DTF asserted that its excessive use should not distance teachers from students. The organisation demanded that the department stop introducing frequent new systems, provide data entry operators in schools for data-related work, and allow teachers to focus on teaching rather than filling apps and Google Sheets. DTF state president Vikramdev Singh, general secretary Mahinder Kaudianwali and finance secretary Ashwani Awasthi said the app has been developed by the education department in collaboration with a private company. They said marking attendance within a fixed time through the mobile app has become a challenge for teachers. According to them, when the app is accessed simultaneously across the state, the server remains busy and attendance cannot be marked. They also claimed that even after teachers mark their presence, the system sometimes automatically marks them absent, forcing them to mark attendance again. MSID:: 130113368 413 |
