Patna: A resident of Bengali Tola in Jakkanpur, Ranjan Gupta, was taken into custody for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs44 lakh in a land deal. The complainant, Sohani Kumari of Tekari in Gaya district, claimed Gupta promised to sell her a 1,571 sq ft plot and collected about Rs55 lakh in several instalments. He allegedly sold the original plot to another buyer and later showed her a different plot while taking more money. Gupta later returned Rs11 lakh, leaving Rs44 lakh unpaid. Acting on her complaint, Jakkanpur police arrested him and sent him to judicial custody.
