Kanpur: Nawabganj police on Tuesday arrested one accused, identified as Govind, and took five others into custody in connection with the murder of a 34-year-old man allegedly by a group of 8–10 men near the Jageshwar police booth on Monday evening.The victim’s family reportedly had placed the body at Ganga Barrage in the afternoon and demanded strict action against the accused.Police reached the spot and assured the family of stringent action against the accused, following which the road blockade was lifted.According to police, the incident occurred when the deceased, Vishal, was returning home with an LPG cylinder, accompanied by his younger brother Puneet and friend Rahul.Vishal reportedly stopped to eat at a fast-food shop near the Jageshwar police booth and asked his brother to continue ahead.Police said Vishal had an argument with the accused, Vishal alias Vishalli, and a few other men who were consuming alcohol at the spot.The accused allegedly assaulted Vishal with sticks and rods, resulting in his death.DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava said strict action would be taken in the case and no accused would be spared.
