Kanpur: Residents experienced pleasant weather on Tuesday, with light to moderate showers and overcast skies bringing the maximum temperature down to 30.3°C and providing relief from the intense humidity that had prevailed over the past few days.Rainfall measuring 41.4 mm, accompanied by south-easterly winds blowing at speeds between 1.3 and 9.4 kmph, kept conditions cool and brought the minimum temperature down to 24.4°C.Although the relative humidity remained extremely high at 97%, continuous rainfall and cool winds prevented the sultry conditions that had persisted over the past several days. The city remained under dense cloud cover from the morning. Brief spells of sunshine appeared a couple of times during the day but were quickly replaced by fresh rain-bearing clouds, resulting in repeated showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that active monsoon conditions will continue over the next 24 hours, with a strong possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across districts of the Kanpur division.Weather experts said the southwest monsoon has become fully active in the region and is expected to keep temperatures under control while continuing to provide relief from oppressive humidity.According to the IMD forecast for Kanpur Nagar, the city is likely to witness overcast skies with intermittent heavy showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday.Dr S. N. Sunil Pandey, weather expert at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), said that Kanpur division will experience cloudy skies between July 22 and July 24.He said isolated areas may experience strong surface winds, scattered drizzles, light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning during this period.Intermittent sunshine is also likely as weather systems continue to evolve over the region.Dr Pandey added that the activation of the monsoon across most parts of the country is expected to have a significant positive impact on both the ongoing Kharif season and the upcoming Rabi crops.
