Imphal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met a delegation from the Manipur govt led by CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the PM’s office in Seva Teerth, New Delhi. This marked Singh’s first meeting with the PM since assuming office earlier this month.The three-member delegation included the CM, deputy CM Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP, and deputy CM Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), according to a statement from the CM’s office.
During the meeting, the CM briefed the PM on steps taken by the newly formed state govt to restore peace and harmony in Manipur following months of unrest. He also urged Modi to give special focus to women’s empowerment in both the hills and the valley.The delegation extended an invitation to the PM to visit Manipur.Singh was sworn in as CM on Feb 4, amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the situation in the state. Notably, 20 days after his swearing-in — along with two deputy chief ministers and two ministers — there has been neither allocation of portfolios nor expansion of the council of ministers.
