Vadodara: Two officials of the mines and minerals department were beaten up when they tried to stop illegal sand mining in Panchmahal district. They had to be rushed to the Godhra civil hospital for treatment.The alleged assault took place at Ghusar village near Godhra. The two officials went to the Goma river near the village with a security guard on Thursday morning, after learning about illegal sand mining there.The officials — mine supervisor Keyur Sanjeliya and royalty inspector Karmaraj Jadeja — tried to stop the tractor-trolleys that were hauling sand away from the river. They were successful is stopping one of them but the person driving it fled. To prevent the officials from seizing more tractors, those at the site assaulted the officials.The officials told mediapersons that the tractor-trolley they had stopped had been seized officially. They added that earlier, they had given an application to the police regarding illegal mining. They said they will be registering an offence at Vejalpur police station regarding the assault.
