Vadodara: An election officer collapsed during the dispatch of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in Karjan taluka on Saturday, reportedly due to some underlying medical condition that was aggravated by heat.The incident took place at the Karjan Taluka Seva Sadan, designated as the receiving and dispatch centre for the panchayat elections.According to officials, the officer fell unconscious while EVMs and other polling materials were being handed over to polling teams. Medical staff at the venue shifted him to the hospital and the officer’s condition is stable.Officials added that a medical team had been deployed at the centre as a precaution, particularly in view of the rising temperatures. The district administration also arranged for coolers and tents at polling stations for Sunday.At the Karjan centre, 12 counters were set up for systematic distribution of EVMs, notices, forms and other election materials. Polling teams collected materials after due verification before leaving for polling stations.
