Udupi: A nurse belonging to a Dalit community allegedly lost nearly Rs 8 lakh in a job scam. The victim is a 24-year-old woman, a staff nurse in a hospital in Udupi. She got acquainted with Ajay, who was working as an HR professional during her training period, after completing her nursing degree in 2024.Ajay told her that she would get a job quickly because she belonged to the ST community, but it would cost some money. He took all her documents and an advance of Rs 2,000. After finishing her nursing, while she was working at a hospital in Manipal, Ajay called her and convinced her that he would get her a govt job as promised, gradually taking a total of Rs 5.4 lakh from her. Additionally, he made her buy mobile phones worth Rs 2.6 lakh, using finance, other loans, and her salary. Furthermore, Ajay repeatedly harassed her for money and threatened her family when she mentioned informing them about it. According to the complaint, when the complainant asked for her money and belongings back, Ajay threatened her. A case has been registered at Udupi Town police station under Section 3(2)(va) of the SC, ST Act and Sections 308(2) and 351(2) of the BNS.
