Mysuru: NSG commandos conducted a mock drill at Mysuru Palace, simulating the neutralising of 30 terrorists holed up inside the premises during a six-hour operation.The operation began at 10 pm on Tuesday and the operation was completed by 4 am on Wednesday. The drill was aimed at assessing preparedness against a possible terror attack, especially in the wake of the Mysuru Dasara festival, when the city witnesses large crowds and heightened security requirements, as well as improving foolproof security arrangements.A total130 commandos played the role of an elite security force in the mock drill, as part of the exercise, while another 30 commandos acted as ‘terrorists’ to create a realistic scenario for the teams responding to the threat. The mock drill tested coordination and movement inside a high-profile heritage structure, hostage rescue tactics, and rapid area sanitisation procedures.Earlier, NSG teams also conducted similar drills at key locations across Mysuru, including Mysuru Airport, St Philomena’s Church and the RBI campus.An official said that the exercises were part of efforts to improve and strengthen security arrangements, ensuring foolproof measures at sensitive and high-footfall sites during major public events.DC Lakshmikanth Reddy, who is the executive officer of the Mysuru Palace Board, said that NSG commandos conducted a mock drill in Mysuru.
