Patna: A notorious criminal with a history of serious offences, including attempt to murder, extortion and Arms Act cases, was arrested with an illegal firearm in Patna’s Khusrupur area on Sunday, police said.The arrested accused has been identified as Sanjay Kumar alias Santosh Kumar alias Santosh Don, a resident of Pachrukhiya under Khusrupur police station area. He is originally from Khijarchak under Rahui police station area in Nalanda district. The Bihar STF, in a joint operation with the Khusrupur police, arrested him near NH Hamzapur in the wee hours of Sunday after receiving information that he was moving around the area with criminal intent.According to police, Santosh was wanted in Fatuha police station case number 111/26, registered on Feb 17 under various sections of the BNS. A fresh case has been registered at Khusrupur police station following his arrest.Police recovered a country-made pistol, one magazine, three live cartridges, a wristwatch and Rs18,900 in cash from his possession.Fatuha SDPO-II Sanjeev Kumar said Santosh is a notorious criminal and is also considered a land mafia. He said the accused’s name figures in the top-ten list of criminals and that he is linked to organised crime activities in Patna.“During interrogation, he admitted his criminal background and history. He has been charge-sheeted in around 28 cases and was absconding in three other cases. Non-bailable warrants have also been issued against him in cases linked to Bhawan Bigha and Wena police stations,” the SDPO said.Police said around 32 serious cases, including attempt to murder, extortion and violations under the Arms Act, are registered against Santosh in Patna and Nalanda districts.
