NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday directed that meat shops around temples be kept closed during Navratri and ordered special sanitation measures at Ramlila venues and places of worship across the city, officials said.According to an official statement, MCD Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma issued the direction to the MCD commissioner.Zonal deputy commissioners have been asked to inspect temples and Ramlila venues in their respective areas and ensure compliance during the festival, news agency PTI reporter.Sharma also directed officials to ensure regular cleaning of Ramlila grounds, temples and adjoining areas, besides placing adequate dustbins at the venues and ensuring timely collection and disposal of waste.“Special sanitation arrangements are required at places witnessing a large gathering of devotees during Navratri and Ramlila celebrations. The concerned officers should ensure that cleanliness is maintained on a priority basis,” Sharma said.She also directed officials to carry out anti-larval measures and fogging, wherever required, around the venues and temples to check mosquito breeding and other insects, the statement said, PTI reported.“The arrangements should be monitored regularly and any sanitation-related issue should be addressed without delay,” she said.Zonal officials have also been asked to conduct regular inspections of Ramlila venues and ensure compliance with the directions throughout Navratri.The directions come amid large gatherings at temples and Ramlila venues during the festival, when sanitation and waste-management requirements increase around such sites.(With agency inputs)
