Times News NetworkNagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) stepped up its property tax recovery drive on Thursday, recovering Rs 1.51 crore and seizing properties of defaulters across zones. The drive will continue till Sept 30, with the civic body targeting Rs 1,000 crore in outstanding dues.Commercial properties and major defaulters are being prioritised, with recovery teams issuing notices and initiating seizure proceedings against properties with large arrears.Nehru Nagar Zone of NMC seized the property of a celebration lawn after its owners failed to clear property tax dues of Rs 90.36 lakh despite repeated notices. A seizure warrant was pasted at the entrance.Additionally, NMC’s Hanuman Nagar Zone seized around 10 properties.Similarly, Gandhi Bagh Zone initiated seizure proceedings against 11 properties. Five owners cleared their dues, resulting in a recovery of Rs 3.23 lakh through cheques. The remaining six properties were seized.The drive is being carried out on the instructions of mayor Neeta Thakre and under the guidance of NMC commissioner Vipin Itankar. Officials have been directed to focus on major commercial properties and defaulters. The civic body has urged property owners to clear their dues before enforcement action.
