Nagpur: Nearly 48% of posts in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) are lying vacant, severely affecting civic administration. Of 17,981 sanctioned posts, only 9,322 employees are in place, leaving 8,659 posts unfilled, officials informed during a departmental review meeting chaired by municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar on Monday.Taking serious note of the staffing crisis, the commissioner directed officials to initiate the recruitment process for vacant posts and prepare proposals for pending appointments. He also instructed the administration to pursue the state govt for officers on deputation, as the civic body requires around 19 officers from the state cadre.The review meeting of the general administration and legal departments was held at the commissioner’s chamber in the NMC headquarters. Additional commissioners Vasumana Pant and Vaishnavi B, chief engineer Manoj Talewar, chief accounts and finance officer Sadashiv Shelke, deputy commissioners Nirbhay Jain and Milind Meshram, along with other senior officials, attended the meeting.Deputy commissioner Nirbhay Jain said the civic body has 205 cadres across Class 1 to Class 4 categories under the revised structure. Itankar directed officials to prepare proposals regarding hiring pending at state and follow up with state govt.
