Mangaluru: Police arrested P Sam Johnson and H Shivananda Nayak, both permanent professors at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal, in connection with a bill forgery case.Surathkal police registered a case against the two associate NCC officers of the 2 Kar Engr Coy NCC (Army Wing) unit at NITK, for allegedly submitting forged documents to claim travel, accommodation and daily allowances.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that a case of breach of trust by public servant was booked against two faculty members of NITK Suratkal, based on a complaint by NITK officials. “The case booked after preliminary inquiry revealed that they were involved in misappropriation. The professors were taken into custody and will be produced before a magistrate,” he said.The institute found out about the misappropriation during its internal inquiry and lodged a complaint to take criminal action against them as per law, the commissioner said.The alleged offences reportedly relate to the period between May 5, 2023, and May 16, 2026. A preliminary inquiry found that the accused had allegedly submitted fabricated detailment orders, attendance certificates and other documents to show that they had attended NCC camps and performed official duties. Based on these documents, they allegedly claimed reimbursement from the institute towards TA/DA, accommodation and travel expenses. According to the complaint, Johnson allegedly caused a loss of Rs 12,32,862, while Nayak allegedly claimed Rs 1,18,593, resulting in alleged total loss of Rs 13,51,455 to the institute.
