Mangaluru: With most routes, especially villages in Sullia lacking proper public transportation facilities, students are forced to walk for hours to reach schools. BJP MLA Bhagirathi Murulya has been requesting KSRTC authorities to introduce buses on all major routes. However, since all efforts yielded no results, the MLA has approached the minister, expecting the KSRTC to introduce buses on major routes.The MLA said that she met transport minister Byrathi Suresh and submitted an appeal requesting the allocation of new buses to the Sullia bus depot.“Due to a shortage of buses and staff at the Sullia bus depot in my constituency, rural residents and students are facing severe hardship. Therefore, an appeal was made to allocate 10 new buses along with the appointment of drivers and conductors for the Sullia depot. In response, the minister assured that new buses would be delivered to the govt within the next six months, following which the required buses and staff will be provided,” the MLA said.Further, the MLA has also submitted a memorandum to chief minister DK Shivakumar with regard to various demands pertaining to the Sullia constituency. In fact, the MLA expects the CM to allot special sanctions to the rural constituency of Dakshina Kannada during the state cabinet meeting to be held in Mangaluru for Sept 18.“In view of the state cabinet meeting scheduled to be held in Mangaluru on Sept 18, a memorandum containing 35 key demands was submitted to CM DK Shivakumar, urging him to discuss the major requirements of the Sullia assembly constituency during the meeting, and release the necessary funds,” the MLA said.The key demands include developing the Kedambadi Ramegowda Theme Park in commemoration of the 1837 Amara Sullia freedom struggle to promote tourism, she said. Converting 33 kV power transmission lines into underground cables to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply and declaring Tulu as the second official language of the state, are some of the major demands the MLA put forth in her memorandum to the CM.
