T’puram: City police conducted a large-scale night security and vehicle inspection drive across all police sub-divisions as part of efforts to strengthen surveillance and prevent crime.The operation focused on vulnerable and sensitive areas, including commercial centres, crowded and deserted stretches, tourist destinations, hotels, lodges, homestays and labour camps.
During the drive, police checked 241 persons listed as history-sheeters. Two cases were registered under NDPS Act, while 51 cases were booked under Abkari Act. As part of intensified inspections, 401 establishments, including hotels, lodges, homestays and counters functioning in tourist centres and city areas, were checked. In addition, 98 labour camps were inspected, and 19 cases were registered for violations such as failure to produce valid documents. Vehicle checks formed a major component of the operation. Police screened 1,067 vehicles, including two-wheelers and heavy vehicles. Of these, 543 motorists were fined under Motor Vehicles Act for various violations. As many as 124 cases were registered for offences such as drunk driving, obstructing traffic and other serious violations. Police also executed warrants pending against accused in multiple cases. Nine long-pending warrants and 13 other warrants issued by various courts were executed during the drive. City police commissioner Karthick K said the checks were aimed to ensure public safety through enhanced night policing. “Such intensive security inspections will continue in the city in the coming days to deter crime and maintain law and order,” he said.
