Hazaribag: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Friday began repairing the damaged service road and pothole-ridden stretches at Mahudi on GT Road, a day after Hazaribag deputy commissioner Hemant Sati held a meeting with officials over the issue.The work also follows a seven-day ultimatum issued by Barhi MLA Manoj Kumar Yadav, who threatened to launch an agitation if the road was not repaired.Commuters have been facing lengthy traffic snarls on the Chouparan-Barhi stretch for the past two weeks because of damage, ongoing construction and encroachments. The repair work has brought some relief to motorists and residents, who had been demanding immediate action.NHAI project director Ashutosh Soni, accompanied by Barhi SDPO Radha Prem Kishore, on Friday inspected several locations between Barhi and Chouparan, including Barhi Chowk, Bilautia Mor, Rasoiya Dhamna and Chauparan.The team reviewed the condition of the road and service lanes, traffic movement, encroachments, signboards and other safety-related issues. “The service lanes will be repaired to ease traffic until the highway project is completed,” Soni said.He also directed officials to replace damaged signboards and install delineators at suitable locations.
