Dhanbad: A student of Dhanbad Law College has accused members of All India Students’ Association (AISA) of locking him in a classroom and assaulting him over his alleged links with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).The student submitted a written complaint to the college principal before approaching Dhanbad police on Friday. He alleged that AISA members confined him in a vacant classroom on Thursday and beat him after he refused to stop interacting with ABVP workers.According to the complaint, the student was earlier associated with AISA but later came in contact with ABVP members. He claimed that some AISA functionaries repeatedly pressured him to distance himself from the rival organisation. When he refused, he was allegedly assaulted and was later rescued following the intervention of ABVP students.Dhanbad police station officer in-charge Manoj Pandey said the allegations of ragging and assault were serious. “Since the college was closed on Friday, immediate verification could not be carried out. Police will begin a detailed inquiry after the college reopens,” he said.AISA rejected the allegations as baseless and accused ABVP of trying to malign the organisation. AISA state vice-president Sneha Mahto said the student had recently come in contact with ABVP workers, who had allegedly influenced him to file complaints with the college and police.ABVP state vice-president Anshu Tiwari, however, said the student had been facing harassment for some time and had verbally informed the college management about the issue. He said the situation escalated on Thursday, forcing the student to lodge written complaints.College principal Kamal Kishore said ragging was strictly prohibited and the complaint would be thoroughly investigated. “Action would be taken if the allegations were established,” he added.The incident has renewed concerns over rivalry between the two student groups, which had reportedly clashed over an alleged assault a few months ago.
