Srinagar, July 31: The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remains closed for all types of traffic on Friday as restoration work is in progress, officials said.
An official of Traffic Police told GNS that, work is underway between Jakheni in Udhampur district and Gangroo, Banihal in Ramban district.
The closure follows an advisory issued yesterday by the District Magistrates of Udhampur and Ramban, allowing NHAI to carry out widening of the hill-side carriageway and removal of loose debris.
Commuters have been advised not to travel on NH-44 until the road is cleared for traffic.
Authorities have also urged people not to pay heed to rumours and to check the status of the highway only through official sources, including the Traffic Police Twitter handle, Facebook page and Traffic Control Units (TCUs).
Further updates will be issued once the restoration work is completed.(GNS)
