Jaipur: Senior nephrologist Dr Dhananjai Agarwal, senior professor at SMS Medical College, Jaipur, has taken charge as president of the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT) at its national conference in Hyderabad.A former vice-chancellor of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences and former head of nephrology at SMS Medical College, Agarwal has over four decades of experience in nephrology, teaching and research. He has been associated with the kidney transplant programme at SMS Hospital since its inception.Rajasthan has recorded 15 deceased organ donors and 41 deceased-donor organ transplants since 2024, according to National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation data.“There is a need to give a push to the organ transplant programme in the state,” Agarwal said, calling for better identification and certification of brain-stem death, stronger family counselling, trained organ retrieval teams, efficient organ transport and transparent allocation.
