Jaisalmer: An eight-year-old girl died Sunday after a high-tension power line fell on her as she was playing with her siblings in Lohata village under Lathin police station limits of Jaisalmer.The girl, identified as Noori Bai, suffered severe burn injuries after coming in contact with the 11-KV power line. According to reports, she and her siblings were playing near a tubewell while their father was busy working in the fields when the high-tension line passing overhead snapped and fell on her.

Family members rushed in after hearing the resulting commotion and pulled the girl away from the power line after pushing it away with a wooden stick. They rushed her to the Lathi govt hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Police reached the scene of the accident and later registered a case of unnatural death.The incident reignited concerns among local villagers over safety and maintenance of high-tension power lines passing over their agricultural fields. Many said they have been demanding regular inspection of the power lines and timely repairs to damaged wires.Villagers said Noori was the second among five sisters and two brothers and attended Class 1 at a private school in Lathi.
