Gurgaon: GMDA is planning a flyover at the crucial intersection of sectors 86-90 and 87-91 on the multi-utility corridor to improve connectivity between Dwarka Expressway and Manesar. The proposed flyover will be the second grade separator planned on the corridor, after the flyover at Dadi Sati Chowk, for which the tendering process is currently underway.The junction is a crucial link for motorists travelling between Dwarka Expressway, NH8 and Manesar. The multi-utility corridor provides an alternative route between Manesar and NH8 and the proposed flyover is expected to improve through movement along this route. The project will particularly benefit commuters travelling between the residential sectors along the corridor, industrial areas in Manesar and institutional centres, including Gurugram University.“The multi-utility corridor provides an important connectivity link between Dwarka Expressway and Manesar. With increasing traffic movement and development of residential, industrial and institutional areas along the corridor, the proposed flyover at Shaheed Rao Ranjit Singh Chowk will improve through connectivity and provide an additional route for traffic moving between the two sides. We are already working on proposed flyover at Dadi Sati Chowk,” the official said.A detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed flyover is under preparation. The proposal is likely to be placed before the next GMDA meeting for approval. The DPR will determine the final alignment, design, length and estimated cost of the structure. The need for the flyover has grown with rapid development in new sectors along Dwarka Expressway during the last few years.Shaheed Rao Ranjit Singh Chowk and Dadi Sati Chowk are around 1.7 km apart, and officials said traffic conditions at the two intersections are broadly similar. With grade separators planned at both locations, GMDA intends to improve traffic movement at successive major junctions rather than addressing congestion at just one point.The Dadi Sati Chowk project is already at a more advanced stage. GMDA has completed the technical evaluation of bids and the financial bids are expected to be opened shortly. The authority has proposed a six-lane, approximately 750-metre-long flyover at Dadi Sati Chowk to facilitate uninterrupted movement of through traffic between Dwarka Expressway and IMT Manesar corridor. The junction connects Sectors 85, 86, 89 and 90 and also handles traffic towards Rampura Chowk and Pataudi Road.The flyover will have three lanes in each direction, while service roads on either side will cater to local traffic. The design also includes provisions for U-turn movements to maintain access to adjoining sectors and developments. GMDA has additionally made provisions for a future underpass below the junction. Retaining structures will be constructed as part of the current project so that the underpass can subsequently be built without requiring major changes to the flyover or causing significant disruption to traffic.Together, the proposed Shaheed Rao Ranjit Singh Chowk flyover and the Dadi Sati grade separator are expected to improve traffic movement along the wider multi-utility corridor connecting Dwarka Expressway with Manesar. The residents, meanwhile, have welcomed the development, saying that there is a need for intervention to improve the traffic flow. “Earlier, Dadi Sati Chowk was the main bottleneck but now the traffic condition has worsened at this junction as well. Even the design of the roundabout at Shaheed Rao Ranjit Singh Chowk is not well thought of, with wrong side driving prevalent. Authority should construct both the flyovers parallelly otherwise one problem will be solved and another bigger problem will crop up,” said Vivek Prakash, a resident of DLF New Town Heights.
